Every Gilmore Girls Episode You Should Watch This Fall

It's officially "Gilmore Girls Fall"...

If you happen to know me personally or have browsed the blog (especially the What To Watch page), then you know that Gilmore Girls is my favorite television series of all time. It looks like I’m not the only one who loves the show, as it seems to have become the “it” show of fall. There is something about the small town of Stars Hollow that just gives off a cozy fall vibe, so I completely understand the hype.

If you’re a Gilmore Girls newbie or just looking for especially fall-ish episodes to binge before the season is over, check out my favorite fall episodes below. As for me, I’ll be rewatching the show for the forty-seventh time this autumn. (Just an estimate, but I’ve watched it A LOT of times.)

"Rory's Birthday Parties"
(Season 1, Episode 6)

In case you’re not an avid Gilmore Girls fan and didn’t already know this, Rory Gilmore’s birthday is on October 8th- right in the middle of autumn. As the title suggests, this episode features two very different birthday parties thrown for Rory’s “Sweet 16”, one by her mom and one by her grandparents.

Rory and Dean awkwardly and adorably flirt, Luke saves the day with ice for one of Rory’s parties, and Lorelai’s parents finally get a glimpse of her Stars Hollow life. This episode is one of my favorites and is definitely a must-watch during fall.

"Kiss and Tell"
(Season 1, Episode 7)

While Stars Hollow is always quaint and cozy, there’s something especially charming about seeing it in all its fall glory. The leaves have changed colors, hay bales dot every street corner, and dozens of pumpkins decorate the sidewalks, gazebo, and more. You can almost smell the pumpkin spice through the screen.

In this episode, Rory has her first kiss and dresses up as a pilgrim with Lane to help at the town festival. Lorelai dons some especially fall-ish outfits and finds out about Rory’s kiss from Mrs. Kim. Meanwhile, Luke adamantly refuses to decorate the diner for Thanksgiving. This one’s a must-watch!

"They Shoot Gilmores, Don't They" (Season 3, Episode 7)

This is one of my favorite episodes of Gilmore Girls in general, but it’s especially fun to watch during fall because it focuses on another cute, small-town event. Stars Hollow is holding a 24-hour dance-a-thon, and Lorelai is in it to win it this year. There’s no way she’s losing to Kirk again! Rory, meanwhile, is dealing with some serious boy drama that comes to a head while she’s on the dance floor.

"A Deep Fried Korean Thanksgiving" (Season 3, Episode 9)

Happy Thanksgiving from the Gilmores! In this episode Rory and Lorelai attend not one, not two, not three, but four Thanksgiving celebrations- one at Sookie’s, one at Luke’s, one at the Kim’s, and one at Richard and Emily’s house. Isn’t that a lot of food for one day? Lorelai has faith in their abilities, which she tells Rory. “This is what we’ve been training for our whole lives. This is our destiny, this is our finest hour.”

“Or our final hour,” Rory quips back.

I always watch this episode a day or two before Thanksgiving as I’m cleaning or prepping food. It’s so cozy and fun- perfect for the holiday!

"The Lorelais' First Day At Yale" (Season 4, Episode 2)

Lorelai, Rory, and Luke move Rory’s things into her new Yale dorm, which she’ll be sharing with Paris and two other girls. As the time for Lorelai to leave approaches, Rory has a hard time saying goodbye to her mom… so Lorelai stays the night at her dorm and tries to help her adjust to college life.

The whole Ivy League academia aesthetic screams fall, making this a must-watch during back-to-school season.

"Ted Koppel's Big Night Out"
(Season 4, Episode 9)

Fall and football go hand in hand, so you have to watch this episode where Rory and Lorelai attend the Harvard-Yale game with Richard and Emily. Posh tailgating and autumnal outfits give off a cozy fall vibe, which is in stark contrast with the very unpleasant Gilmore family drama happening before the game.

"But Not As Cute As Pushkin"
(Season 5, Episode 10)

In this episode Rory hosts a Chilton student at Yale and creates an entire itinerary to show her what life is like at the famous Ivy League school. As Rory shows her around campus we get to see Yale in all its fall glory, and that cozy academia aesthetic makes this a must-watch for fall.

"Pulp Friction"
(Season 5, Episode 17)

This is the closest we get to an actual Halloween party during Gilmore Girls. Rory attends a Tarantino-themed costume party at Yale with another guy after she and Logan agree to date “casually”. Shockingly (not), Logan gets jealous and wants Rory to leave the party with him instead.

"Fall"
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

This is the final installment of the four-part sequel to Gilmore Girls that Netflix released in 2016, and there’s a lot going on! Lorelai is “doing” Wild, The Life and Death Brigade pay a visit to Stars Hollow, Rory makes an important decision concerning her on-and-off relationship with Logan, Luke and Lorelai (finally) get married, and Emily makes a big move.

As the name implies, we get to see Stars Hollow decked out for fall once again. This installment is also the very last time we see our favorite Gilmore girls on screen, and we are left with the infamous Final Four Words. If you have watched the sequel, what did you think of Rory’s final words to her mom?

Honorable Mention:

"Hay Bale Maze"
(Season 7, Episode 18)

Town event planner extraordinaire, Taylor, organizes a hay bale maze for the Stars Hollow Spring Fling festival. But let’s be honest, with all the hay bales this episode screams fall not spring. I think Taylor might have missed the mark with this one- I mean a hay bale maze during allergy season? Not his best work.

Are there any other Gilmore Girls fall episodes you think are missing from this list?
