The beginning of a new month always feels like a mini fresh start to me, and I like to reflect that in my journal. If you want to do a little monthly reset in your journal, here are 5 prompts to help you start your month with purpose and focus. Whether you’ve been journaling for years or are just starting out, you can take these prompts and use them to set yourself up for a happy, productive month.

5 Journal Prompts for a Fresh Start to the Month:

1. What small acts of kindness or generosity do you want to practice in the coming month?

Brainstorm little acts of kindness you can do for others this month. This list has some ideas for the holidays, but they can be used all year round!

2. What is something new that you'd like to try this month?

Write about something new you’d like to try, like a recipe or a hobby. Even better- make a whole list of new things you’d like to try!

3. What is your favorite part of this month?

Thinking back to Februarys or Mays or Septembers of the past, what has been your favorite part of the month? Maybe it’s your birthday month or you know that the weather will be warming up. It’s almost February, so perhaps you’re looking forward to Valentine’s Day!

4. What do you want to read this month?

Make a mini TBR (To Be Read) list, just for the upcoming month. I like to list about 5 books, plus 1 or 2 others in case I’m not in the mood to read the first 5. If you’re looking for some reading challenges or books to add to your TBR list, check out some of these posts:

5. What do you want to learn this month?

List some specific skills you’d like to learn or topics you’d like to learn more about this month. Why?
