NOTE: This post contains spoilers for episode 3 of The Bachelor.
Welcome to the recap for episode 3 of The Bachelor! This week included two group dates, a one-on-one date, and a whole lot of (seemingly unnecessary) drama. Let’s review.
Kisses & Finding a Mrs.
Edwina, Kelsey A., Lexi, Allison, Madina, Chrissa, Lea, Sydney, and Maria were invited to the first group date of the week, which was pageant-themed. The women competed in three categories during the “Mrs. Right” pageant, including Lazy Sunday Chill Wear, a Q&A, and a talent show. The guest hosts for this date were no other than ASKN from The Golden Bachelor– April, Susan, Kathy, and Nancy.
Some highlights from the pageant included:
- Edwina sang a song she wrote for Joey during the talent portion, although she does not consider herself a singer.
- Lexi’s “talent” was kissing Joey, which ruffled some feathers.
- Sydney was not impressed by the other girls’ talents, especially since she has pageant experience. Unfortunately, her cheer routine was awkward at best and earned a smattering of applause from the audience along with some uncomfortable looks from the ladies of The Golden Bachelor.
- Lexi won the pageant and the title of “Mrs. Right”. Apparently, Joey was a fan of the kiss!
One-on-One #2
Jenn got the second one-on-one date of the season! She and Joey went on a surfing date, which was sweet. During dinner later on in the night, Jenn opened up about her childhood. She talked about how her parents’ poor relationship led to Jenn being left to take care of herself, along with the fact that she doesn’t have a relationship with her father anymore. She expressed that she’s felt unloveable in the past but now that she’s seen what a great guy Joey is, she feels that she’s ready for a relationship.
After dinner, the two went outside to enjoy a drone light show. The drones spelled out the words “Today has been a dream. Jenn will you accept this rose?” Jenn obviously said yes.
Love, Set, Match
The second group date was tennis-themed and included Katelyn, Autumn, Rachel, Daisy, Evalin, Kelsey T., Starr, and Jess. The women were given a tennis lesson by Joey, along with James Blake and Pam Shriver. Then they were paired up to compete in the first-ever Bachelor Open, coming out in funny costumes. Here is how each pair dressed up:
- Babies = Autumn and Daisy
- Hot Dog and Bun = Starr and Rachel
- The Beehive = Katelyn and Jess
- Lobster and Butter = Kelsey and Evalin
"I am not the drama"
Joey decided he wanted to have a whole day with the women, instead of just seeing them for the cocktail party in the evening. You know what that means- pool party time! But first, Kentucky Fried Chicken (???). In the most obvious ad ever, all the women ate KFC before Joey showed up for the date.
Anyway, back to the party. Remember how I mentioned unnecessary drama? Let’s break it down.
- Sydney would not let the Maria and Madina age issue go (even though they decided to move past it and she was not involved at all, but whatever). She decided to go to Joey to talk about how she had been bullied by Maria. She claimed that Maria verbally attacked her and called her “embarrassing, weird, and dumb”. Remember those cameras and mics, Sydney? Spoiler alert- Maria never called her any of those things.
- Joey felt concerned after hearing Sydney’s accusations but didn’t feel that he knew the entire story, so he sat down with Maria. Maria was obviously confused and hurt, telling Joey that she had been bullied in the past and would never treat another person that way. She also told him if he likes Sydney there’s no way he can like her- they are way too different. Sydney seemed to have made accusations without really providing much detail as to why she felt that way, and Joey admitted that he should have asked her more questions.
- After his conversation with Maria, Joey felt even more confused. Maria seemed genuine, so was Sydney telling him the truth? Who knows.
- Meanwhile, the rest of the women were feeling extremely frustrated that so much time was being wasted on this drama that didn’t seem to really exist. Multiple women stated to the camera that they didn’t think any bullying actually occurred, so what was time actually being spent on here?
The Rose Ceremony
The Rose Ceremony went how any fan of The Bachelor probably thought it would. The last two roses of the night went to Maria and Sydney, in that order. I smell a two-on-one date coming soon! Others who received roses included Lexi, Lea, Kelsey T., Rachel, Madina, Daisy, Jess, Edwina, Autumn, and Allison. That means Evalin, Starr, and Chrissa were sent home.
Onto next week...
…and it will be a packed week with two episodes airing (one on Monday and one on Tuesday). Looking forward to it!
