These dill pickle roll-ups are fast, fabulous, and require only four ingredients, making them easy to whip up for any kind of gathering—from game days to holidays and everything in between. These are a staple at our house and tend to go quickly, so you have to really pay attention in order to snack on some before they’re gone!

This is also a “cheater” recipe, meaning there is some sort of shortcut that will save you some time or effort, without sacrificing taste. Today, that shortcut is using Philadelphia Chive & Onion Cream Cheese Spread, instead of mixing up your own cream cheese concoction.

Dill Pickle Pinwheels Ingredients

Extra Large Tortillas: I use restaurant-style tortillas from Old El Paso that are about 11.5″-12″ across. Using extra large tortillas just makes the whole pinwheel-making process quicker and easier, but feel free to use whatever tortillas you have in your pantry.

Philadelphia Chive & Onion Cream Cheese: As mentioned above, this ingredient is what makes this already easy appetizer a true cheater recipe. No need to make your own seasoned cream cheese spread when this one is so good.

If you’re new to the blog, a “cheater” recipe is one that uses some sort of shortcut that will save you time or effort without sacrificing taste. These dill pickle pinwheels are the perfect example! You can browse other cheater recipes via the HTBH Recipe Index

Thin-Cut Slices of Deli Meat: I usually use super thin slices of Genoa salami, but ham is also a yummy option!

Petite Dill Pickles: Of course, you need some pickles for dill pickle pinwheels. My favorites are Milwaukee’s Petite Dill Pickles, but use whatever kind you prefer!

When to Serve These Dill Pickle Roll-Ups:

The real answer here is that you can serve dill pickle roll-ups anytime for anyone, but here are some occasions when they have become a go-to snack in our house…

  • Before Holiday Meals: Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving—it doesn’t matter the holiday, these roll-ups will be out for snacking (and probably be completely gone) before dinner is served.
  • In Lunches: Since these pinwheels are so easy (and quick) to make, they are perfect for packing in work or school lunches.

If your home is anything like ours, you might want to double this recipe—these pinwheels will be gone before you know it! Read on for the recipe, then make sure to leave a rating and review once you have tried them for yourself!

Course: Appetizer, Snack
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 28 dill pickle roll-ups

Ingredients

  • 2 Old El Paso Restaurant Style Grande flour tortillas (approx. 11.5"-12" in diameter)
  • Approx. 8 oz Philadelphia Chive & Onion Cream Cheese Spread
  • 14 thin-cut slices Genoa salami (or deli meat of choice—see Note 1 below)
  • 10 petite dill pickles (I love Milwaukee's Petite Dill Pickles.)

Instructions

  • Spread half of the chive and onion cream cheese (approx. 4 oz) on one tortilla.

  • Place a layer of thinly-sliced salami (or other deli meat of choice) to cover the cream cheese.
    Salami on Tortilla
  • Line up 5 petite dill pickles about 1/4 of the way into the tortilla. Cut off the rounded edge of the tortilla. Add a little bit of extra cream cheese to both ends of the tortilla (to secure the parts where you start and end rolling).

  • Roll up the tortilla! Cut off the ends that lack filling, and then cut the rest of the log into small discs. I cut the roll-ups so each one is about ½ - ¾ inch wide, and I get about 14 out of each tortilla.

  • Repeat the same steps for the second tortilla. Serve the roll-ups right away, or store them in the fridge until ready to eat. (See Note 2 below)

Notes from the Happy To Be Here Kitchen

Note 1. Other ingredient options. Instead of genoa salami, you can also make these roll-ups using ham or any other deli meat you prefer. I would suggest using very thin slices of whichever meat you choose. Or, of course, you can skip the meat altogether.
Also, if you're looking to spice these pinwheels up a bit, you can mix some jalapeno cream cheese in with the chive and onion cheese.
Note 2. Fresh Roll-Ups. If possible, I recommend making these roll-ups the same day as you are going to serve them. The tortillas tend to become a little bit soggy/mushy when stored in the fridge overnight. I think these are at their best when they are fresh. Since the roll-ups don't take long to put together, I always make them the same day.

These are so good, and so simple to make. Everybody loves them – kids and adults. They are great made with shaved ham or thin sliced salami. Great as an appetizer or just for a snack.
