Hello Gilmore Girls lovers! Welcome back to the Lorelai and Luke series, in which I list all the most important/pivotal/sweet/funny episodes relating to the couple from each season of the show. As I mentioned before, Lorelai and Luke have a slow burn kind of journey (like really, really slow burn). If you were expecting them to get together quickly, then you’re going to need to have some patience.

Season 2 saw some ups and downs for the friends/almost couple, some sweet moments, and even a bit of foreshadowing of their future together. Read on for the most important Luke and Lorelai episodes from season 2 of Gilmore Girls

The Best Lorelai and Luke Episodes of Season 2:

"Red Light on the Wedding Night"
(Season 2, Episode 3)

The question at the very start of this season was whether Lorelai would say yes to Max Medina’s marriage proposal (remember when he proposed with 1,000 yellow daisies?). Spoiler alert! She said yes, and the first few episodes of the second season of the show were all about wedding prep.

In this episode, Luke handcrafts and gifts Lorelai a chuppah for her wedding, showing his support in spite of his feelings about her upcoming nuptials. In a a scene foreshadowing their future, Lorelai and Luke stand under the chuppah side by side. Is Max really “the one”, Lorelai? I don’t think so.

"The Road Trip to Harvard"
(Season 2, Episode 4)

Apparently Lorelai doesn’t think so either. That’s why she calls off her wedding and goes on a road trip to Harvard with Rory in an attempt to avoid the town’s inevitable gossip about her ended engagement. During their spur of the moment trip, Lorelai calls Sookie to tell her about her cancelled wedding and asks her to spread the news.

When Sookie tells a very cranky Luke that Lorelai has ended her engagement to Max he suddenly brightens up and offers free coffee to everyone in the diner. A little bit transparent aren’t we Mr. Backwards Baseball Cap?

"A-Tisket, A-Tasket"
(Season 2, Episode 13)

Due to Patty’s matchmaking efforts, multiple strange men end up in a bidding war over Lorelai’s basket in Stars Hollow’s annual picnic basket auction. Who does Lorelai turn to in order to save her? Luke, of course.

Lorelai rushes over to the diner and begs Luke to buy her basket and he begrudgingly agrees. However, Luke is not thrilled about the $52.50 he has to pay for Lorelai’s basket. “For what? Two stale Pop Tarts and a Slim Jim?” he quips to Lorelai.

Our favorite grumpy diner owner buys it anyway because, you know, he is in love with Lorelai. Then the two of them then enjoy an actual edible lunch, provided by Luke, together in the gazebo.

Lorelai’s lunch with Luke also gave us the iconic (and relatable) quote seen below. Me too, Lorelai, me too.

"Lost and Found"
(Season 2, Episode 15)

Luke is fed up with the tight quarters he and Jess have been sharing, so he goes apartment hunting. Feeling overwhelmed and needing a second opinion, he turns to Lorelai to help him pick the perfect place. Luke does eventually find an apartment he likes… only to find out the building is owned by his arch-nemesis Taylor Doose.

"Dead Uncles and Vegetables"
(Season 2, Episode 17)

Luke is struggling to juggle his normal shifts at Luke’s and planning his uncle’s funeral, so Lorelai and Rory jump in to help run the diner. Lorelai is particularly thrilled to have a chance to showcase her “diner talk” skills, but mostly this episode showcases her support for Luke during his time of need.

"Teach Me Tonight"
(Season 2, Episode 19)

Jess is struggling in school, so Luke asks Rory to tutor him. She agrees, but her study night with Jess goes awry when they get into a car wreck. Lorelai is infuriated with Luke, since she believes that Jess is bad for Rory and Luke was the one who pushed them to spend time together.

"I Can't Get Started"
(Season 2, Episode 22)

Following their fight over the car accident, Lorelai and Luke have not been speaking for the past few episodes. Lorelai won’t even go into the diner, resorting to eating and picking up coffee from other places in town.

However, in this episode, Lorelai finally walks into the diner to apologize. Luke, however, gives her a “Mr. Freeze” act and Lorelai leaves the diner frustrated that things aren’t back to normal.

Now on to season 3!

Yet again, Lorelai and Luke do not end the season as a couple, and actually end on not the best terms. Remember how I said you need to have patience? Some good things take time, so hang on Gilmore Girls fans and enjoy the ride.
