The Nespresso Vertuo combines style with substance, brewing exceptional coffee while looking sleek and sophisticated sitting on the kitchen counter. I‘ve had my Nespresso Vertuo for over three years now, which I think is more than enough time to have formed an opinion on its quality, usability, and more.

Spoiler alert- I absolutely love it! And I’ll tell you exactly why…

P.S. This is the model I have. ^^^

The Tech

The Nespresso Vertuo uses centrifusion technology to brew espresso and coffee. This means the machine spins the capsules extremely rapidly to extract the coffee, rather than extracting it by pressure alone.

This technology allows the machine to consistently brew quality coffee and espresso. It also allows for the thick, foamy crema to form on the top of your brew (seen clearly in the image above).

The overall effect of this innovative technology, to me, is a coffee shop experience without leaving home. You can get a crema reminiscent of barista-style espresso without changing out of your pajamas- count me in.

Ease of Use

It’s incredibly easy to use the Nespresso Vertuo- there’s literally only one button to press. It automatically adjusts certain settings depending on the type of pod you are using, ensuring that the brewing time, size, and temperature are right every single time.

Additionally, used pods are automatically ejected and stored in the tank on the right side of the machine. The Vertuo’s heat up time is also quite fast, so you can have a hot cup of coffee in a snap. While I have never measured the time down to the second before, I’d be surprised if it took more than 10-15 seconds to heat up before brewing.

Lastly, the water tank is removable, making it easy to clean and refill. It is a 40 oz. tank, allowing you to brew multiple coffees without refilling it but it’s not so large that it looks overly bulky on the side of the machine.

Versatility

If you’re going to invest in a machine like this, one that you plan on using for a long time, you need to be able to switch up your coffee routine if you’d like- and the Vertuo allows you to do exactly that. It can brew four different cup sizes, including espresso, double espresso, 5 oz. coffee, and 8 oz. coffee.

Nespresso Pods: Variety and Recycling

Speaking of switching up your coffee routine, Nespresso offers a broad range of pods to be used in their Vertuo machines. There are a ton of different pods in their permanent collection, and they also offer various seasonal and limited edition pods throughout the year. There’s always something new to try if you’re feeling adventurous, but you can also always come back to your old favorites.

I have found the taste and quality of Nespresso’s coffee to be great, plus I love how many options you have. Check out a few of the many, many different pods below:

Nespresso Recycle Bag

Nespresso pods are also recyclable! You can order a free Nespresso recycling bag like the one above, and fill it with up to 100 Vertuo pods. Then, you can just leave it on your porch for UPS to pick up (the bag comes with a shipping label), or you can drop it off to be mailed back to Nespresso. The aluminum will be turned into new products and the leftover grounds will be used in compost or green energy.

The Look

As an added bonus, the Nespresso Vertuo looks absolutely beautiful sitting on the kitchen counter. Its sleek and simple design is definitely aesthetically pleasing and it serves as the perfect centerpiece to our at-home coffee station.

While looks aren’t everything, this isn’t exactly an appliance that you put away every day after using it. I appreciate the elegant appearance of the Vertuo since it’s something that I look at every single day.

Overall...

So, three years later- do I still think the Nespresso Vertuo is worth it? Absolutely. Its innovative technology, versatility, and look all contribute to my very positive overall opinion on the machine. Plus, it has held up very well over the last three years, which is not a guarantee in a world where it seems that items (even appliances) are becoming more and more expendable.

You can shop my Nespresso Vertuo model below. There’s also a great bundle on Amazon that includes both the Vertuo and a Nespresso milk frother.
