Trying out new makeup can be fun, but every once in a while you find a really good product that you just have to hold onto. I’ve kept an iron grip on my favorite foundation (technically a CC cream) from IT Cosmetics, which I have been using on a daily basis for over 6 years now

The Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream is buildable but lightweight, moisturizing but not oily, and all of the other good things I want in something I’m using as my makeup base every day. Plus it has SPF in it!

This CC cream has been through it all with me- from cold dry winters to humid, hot summers. I’ve used it on casual, little-to-no makeup days and on the days when I do full-coverage glam makeup. So, without further ado, here’s my full, honest review of the product after 6 years of regular use.

About IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream

  • Offers medium to full coverage
  • Infused with skincare ingredients like hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and vitamin E
  • Mineral SPF 50+ (in lighter shades- darker shades are formulated with clear sunscreen)
  • Claims to reduce the look of acne scarring, redness, wrinkles, dark circles, and pores
  • Natural finish (not glowy, not matte)
  • 22 shades for different undertones

All the Reasons I Love It

Coverage: This CC cream is truly buildable, and offers medium to full coverage depending on the amount you use. It doesn’t pill up, become patchy, or pull away from the skin as you add more, and layers beautifully on top of my skincare and sunscreen. I also find that this cream does a great job at evening out my skin tone and covering up breakouts, although you may need a really high-coverage concealer for especially inflamed spots.

Consistency: This CC cream’s consistency is lighter than other full-coverage foundations I have tried but thicker than a skin tint. However, it feels light on the skin, which is really important to me. It’s not one of those foundations that you can just feel sitting on your face, like a layer of spackle. In fact, sometimes I forget I’m wearing it.

Skincare Ingredients: IT Cosmetics boasts that their CC cream includes skincare ingredients more commonly found in serums and moisturizers, like hyaluronic acid and vitamin E. Do I think this CC cream is a substitute for good skincare? Absolutely not. Do I think those ingredients help the way it lays on the skin throughout the day? Absolutely YES. I have never experienced cracking with this product and my skin has never felt dried out or tight from wearing it all day. I think those skincare ingredients contribute to the formula’s moisturizing feel and natural finish on the skin, while also being good for your skin- a great bonus!

SPF 50: The lighter shades of this CC cream include titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, which provide 50+ SPF. As someone whose face is very, very sensitive to chemical sunscreens (like burning and peeling all over kind of sensitive), I appreciate that the sun protection in this CC cream is mineral-based. Plus, my face burns fairly easily, so the more sunscreen the better!

Note- I still apply sunscreen before putting on makeup even knowing there’s some in this product, as I know SPF in makeup doesn’t have the same effectiveness as a dedicated sunscreen on its own. My favorite facial sunscreen is this one from Native that you can shop on Amazon.

No Break Outs: Everyone’s skin is different, but this product has never made me break out, and I think I’d notice given how long I’ve been using it! I find that especially impressive given the SPF component of the formula, which can trigger break outs in many people.

Pairs Well With Other Cream Products: I use concealer, cream contour, and liquid blush on top of this product before setting my face with powder. I have never had an issue with the foundation becoming patchy or lifting as I add other products. Rather, I have found that everything blends together beautifully with this product as my base.

How I Apply It

Over the years, I have tried applying this CC cream using my hands, a beauty blender, and a brush- I definitely prefer the brush! For me the beauty blender absorbed too much product and my hands didn’t allow for quite as much coverage as I want. Using a brush works perfectly for me.

Specifically, IT Cosmetics foundation brushes work very well with this CC cream and any other face products. They’re soft, high quality, blend products without streaking, and will last you years and years.

If you have combination skin (like me) or oily skin, I highly recommend setting this CC cream with translucent powder after you apply all cream/liquid products. With a powder, this foundation lasts me all day without getting too oily in my T-zone.

I love the IT Cosmetics translucent setting powder and the Wet n Wild Photofocus translucent setting powder (great if you want to save some $), both of which you can shop on Amazon.

IT Cosmetics CC Cream - Shade Medium Tan

Shades I Use

For some context- my skin has an olive undertone which veers on the warmer side and I tan very easily during the summer (even if I’m wearing sunscreen). I normally wear the shade Medium in the IT Cosmetics CC Cream. During summer, when I become especially tan, I mix in a bit of the shade Medium Tan (seen above).

Both shades I use have warm undertones, which work for me personally. However, these may look orange on you if your skin has more neutral to cool undertones, so I would check out all of the shades and descriptions before picking one.

Should You Try This CC Cream?

Overall, I think you should try this CC cream if…

  • You’re looking for a medium to full-coverage foundation that will cover acne, redness, etc. without feeling heavy on the skin.
  • You want something with SPF in it.
  • You want a product with a natural finish.

This CC cream may not be for you if…

  • You’re looking for something with a matte or glowy finish (check out IT Cosmetics’ other CC creams, which I talk about next).
  • You are particularly sensitive to SPF.
  • You want a “barely there” base product- instead, try a skin tint.

Other IT Cosmetics CC Creams

Since the launch of their iconic original CC cream, IT Cosmetics has created other versions with different finishes.

I have used and also love the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream Illumination, which offers a radiant finish. I also wear shade Medium in this version of the CC cream and apply it in the same way as well. This product gives off a nice glow without looking greasy, and I highly recommend it if you’d like a more glowy base!

IT Cosmetics also offers a matte-finish version of their CC cream, which I have not tried. If you are someone with very oily skin, I would give it a go.
