Welcome to another installment of the “Garden Diaries” series, where I share what I’m growing and all the ups and downs throughout the season. We’ve had a little break from rain around here and nights have been warm, so everything is growing quickly. Read on for a few quick updates.

Veggies Are Growing!

Vegetable Garden Collage - Garden Diaries

My vegetable garden has absolutely taken off lately, which I’m so excited about! As you can see from the pictures above, my bell peppers and beets are growing nicely. I swear the peas have been growing a foot overnight lately- some are nearing the top of the trellis already.

Even though I used seed tape for the carrots, they were still too crowded to grow properly. So, this week I thinned them out some more, creating more space for each one to grow. I learned the hard way that leaving them crowded can lead to some pretty odd-looking carrots.

Lilies and More Lilies

While peony season may be over, lilies are now in bloom! We planted Stargazer Lilies in a bed a little over a month ago, and they are already blooming. The one below is just a short little thing, but look at how beautiful those colors are!

I also love the orange daylilies seen below- so pretty!

Dahlias Are (Finally) Taking Off

Our growing season started with a lot of rain and cool nights- not exactly ideal conditions for getting Dahlias to grow outside. However, now that it’s warmed up and the rain has become a bit less frequent, all kinds of Dahlias have popped up. You can see the ones in the grow bag below are growing nicely, and will hopefully be producing some flowers soon!

The Dahlia cuttings we started a couple months back (seen below) are still alive. However, you can see that the one on the right has taken off much more quickly than the one on the left- for some unknown reason. They were both started at the same time and have received the same treatment- the Dahlia on the right is just happier.

That’s all I have for garden updates right now! You can check out my other Garden Diaries posts and some of my garden must-haves below.
