This cheesy garlic bread is one of my favorite sides for pasta night. French bread is slathered in garlicky, parmesan butter before being topped with a mixture of shredded mozzarella and provolone. Pop the bread under the broiler for just 5 or 6 minutes and you have the most delicious, addictive garlic cheesy bread. Yum!
Cheesy Garlic Bread Ingredients
Roasted Garlic: The key to this recipe is roasted garlic, which adds a mellow, caramelized, savory, slightly nutty flavor to the garlic butter that is slathered on the bread. If you’ve never roasted garlic before, check out my post on it here. Roasting garlic takes about 45 minutes, so plan ahead if you want to use it for this recipe. You can roast the garlic ahead of time and store it in the fridge, making it easy to add to soups, pastas, or the butter for this garlic bread
If you don’t have roasted garlic on hand and don’t want to wait 45 minutes for it to cook in the oven… use a couple cloves of fresh pressed garlic and/or add extra garlic powder until the butter is garlicky enough for your taste!
Salted Butter: I use one stick for this recipe, melted.
White Pizza Mojo Seasoning & Garlic Powder: I add a little bit of extra garlic powder and some White Pizza Mojo Seasoning to the garlic butter for this bread. Garlicky, cheesy, and salty, White Pizza Mojo Seasoning works well on pizza, this garlic bread, and more. Shop it here on Amazon if you are interested. While optional, I think the extra garlic powder and White Pizza Mojo Seasoning add great flavor and a little extra zing to the garlic butter.
Parmesan Cheese: Plain old Kraft parm works just fine for this recipe, but feel free to grate your own if you’d like.
French Bread: I use half of a 15″ long loaf for this recipe. If you’re cooking for more than 3-4 people, I would double this recipe and use the entire loaf.
Shredded Mozzarella and Provolone Blend: I like adding a mixture of mozzarella and provolone to this bread, but you can use one or the other if you so choose. Or, replace it with your favorite cheese that melts well.
Tips & Variations:
Serve right out of the oven! I feel like this goes without saying, but this bread is best served warm and while the cheese is still gooey. You can transfer this bread to a cutting board and slice it almost immediately after removing from the oven (just be careful so you don’t burn yourself).
Make it spicy! Add some red chili flakes or jalapeños to make a spicy variation of this garlic bread.
Serve as a side or on its own. While I typically think of garlic bread as a side dish for pasta, this cheesy garlic bread can definitely stand on its own. Dip it in some marinara or eat it plain—either way, it will be gone quickly!
If you’re looking for a perfect quick side to serve with your favorite pasta (like this mushroom truffle pasta) or a yummy appetizer everyone will love, this garlic bread is for you. Seriously, double or triple or quadruple the recipe if you’re cooking for more than a few people—this stuff is addictive. Super Easy Cheesy Roasted Garlic Bread
Equipment (Shop on Amazon)
Ingredients
- ½ large loaf of French bread (I use half a 15" loaf to make two 7-8" long pieces)
- ½ cup salted butter
- 2-3 heads roasted garlic (read how to roast garlic here)
- ½ tsp White Pizza Mojo Seasoning optional
- ¼ tsp garlic powder optional
- 2 tbsp Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup shredded provolone and mozzarella blend
Instructions
- Make sure you have roasted garlic ready to use. Read how to roast garlic in your oven here. It will take about 45 minutes to roast the garlic before starting the actual garlic bread. If you will not be using roasted garlic, sub in a couple cloves of fresh pressed garlic and/or additional garlic powder.
- Set your oven to the broiler setting and allow it to preheat. If your oven has the option, choose 'high' or 'maxi broil'. Make sure your oven rack is positioned in the middle of your oven—you don't want to burn the cheese! (See Note 1)
- Make your garlic butter. Add the melted butter, roasted garlic, White Pizza Mojo Seasoning, garlic powder, and parmesan cheese to a medium bowl. Stir until combined, gently pressing the roasted garlic cloves against the side of the bowl as you mix them into the butter.½ cup salted butter, 2-3 heads roasted garlic, ½ tsp White Pizza Mojo Seasoning, ¼ tsp garlic powder, 2 tbsp Parmesan cheese
- Slice your half-loaf of bread lengthwise, like you're about to make a huge sandwich. Place both pieces on a quarter sheet pan cut-side up. Pour half of the garlic butter on each piece of bread. Gently spread it using the back of your spoon until the entire surface of the bread is covered. Sprinkle about a half cup of shredded mozzarella and provolone over the top of each piece of garlic bread (or just measure with your heart, no judgment here).1 cup shredded provolone and mozzarella blend, ½ large loaf of French bread
- Broil the bread for 5-6 minutes, or until the cheese has reached your desired level of browning.
- Remove the garlic bread from the oven. Using a hot pad, move the garlic bread over to a cutting board and slice it into as many pieces as you like. I typically slice each piece into 4-5 smaller pieces, for a total of 8-10 pieces.
- Enjoy your cheesy roasted garlic bread with pasta, soup, or all on its own! This bread is best when eaten straight away.
