Every Gilmore Girls fan knows that there is technically only one Valentine’s Day-themed episode in all seven seasons of the show. However, I think there are a few other episodes that can and should be watched during this time of year since they center around the Gilmore girls’ love lives. Here are seven Gilmore Girls episodes to watch while love is in the air!
Valentine's Day Gilmore Girls Episodes:
"A Vineyard Valentine"
(Season 6, Episode 15)
Of course, I’m going to start off with the actual Valentine’s Day episode of Gilmore Girls. In this episode, Rory and Logan invite Luke and Lorelai to spend Valentine’s Day with them in Martha’s Vineyard. Rory and Logan have some sweet, very domesticated moments while hosting Lorelai and Luke. However, Luke is cranky and Logan’s dad crashes the trip, so everything is not all sunshine and Valentine’s gifts.
"Luke Can See Her Face"
(Season 4, Episode 20)
To me, the last few episodes of season 4 seem to be a bit more appropriate for Valentine’s Day than the actual Valentine’s Day episode of the show. In this episode, Luke buys a self-help tape and, while listening to it, realizes who his soulmate is- Lorelai. Liz and TJ also announce that they are getting married, while Lorelai stresses about the opening of the Dragonfly Inn.
"Last Week Fights, This Week Tights"
(Season 4, Episode 21)
This episode is all about Liz and TJ’s wedding, which Luke invites Lorelai to (as his date!). Luke and Lorelai slow dancing to “Reflecting Light” by Sam Phillips is a scene that’s a favorite for a lot of fans, and for good reason. This moment was a big step in their relationship, leading up to an even more pivotal scene in the next episode. Also, Jess pays Rory a visit at her Yale dorm room, interrupting her time with the now-married Dean.
"Raincoats and Recipes"
(Season 4, Episode 22)
In the season 4 finale, Lorelai invites her family and friends to a test run for the grand opening of the Dragonfly Inn. Kirk is having night terrors, Jason shows up to try to get Lorelai back, and Rory makes a questionable decision regarding a certain married ex-boyfriend. These other plotlines aside, this is the episode where Luke and Lorelai finally kiss!
"Written in the Stars"
(Season 5, Episode 3)
In this episode, Luke takes Lorelai out to a restaurant that he loves and frequents regularly. “Luke has a Luke’s!”, as Lorelai says. It’s there that Luke shows Lorelai the famous horoscope that he has carried around in his wallet for eight years, ever since the day she gave it to him. This moment, to me, shows that it was always Lorelai for Luke.
"Lorelai? Lorelai?"
(Season 7, Episode 20)
This episode is on this list for one reason and one reason only- the iconic “I Will Always Love You” karaoke scene. After that performance by Lorelai, it is clear that she still loves Luke (duh!).
"Love, Daisies and Troubadours"
(Season 1, Episode 21)
We’re going back to the season one finale with this one. In this episode, Max proposes to Lorelai with 1,000 yellow daisies- definitely a romantic gesture (even though I am always on team Luke). Rory also makes up with Dean after the whole “saying I love you in the car” fiasco. Overall, it’s a very love-centric episode, making it great for Valentine’s Day.
