Happy (almost) spring! It may not technically be springtime quite yet, but these spring movies are sure to lift your mood and get you ready for warmer weather. From romantic comedies to whimsical adventures, these films capture the beauty and sense of renewal that come with spring’s start. Grab your blanket and favorite snack or drink- let’s get started.

14 Spring Movies to Watch in 2024:

1. Leap Year

This romantic comedy follows Anna Brady, who is sick and tired of waiting for her boyfriend to propose. Her solution? Fly to Ireland to propose to him on leap day. Shockingly (or not so shockingly), her trip does not go according to plan and she ends up stranded in the Irish countryside. A handsome innkeeper named Declan offers to drive her to Dublin, and I’m sure you can guess what happens next.

2. Emma (1996)

In Emma, based on the classic novel by Jane Austen, charming socialite Emma Woodhouse plays matchmaker for those around her and almost misses her own chance at love.

3. Emma (2020)

The 2020 adaptation of Emma stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Emma Woodhouse.  Meticulously manicured gardens and rolling hills are the backdrop for many scenes and showcase the beauty of spring in the English countryside. Plus, the costumes’ pastel hues and intricate details scream “spring”.

4. Clueless

While we’re on the topic of Emma, how about watching a modern take on the story? Fashion-obsessed Cher Horowitz (played by Alicia Silverstone) takes on the matchmaker role in this iconic 90’s rom com.

5. 10 Things I Hate About You

Speaking of movies based on classics, 10 Things I Hate About You is based on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. Starring Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger, this movie is set in spring and features some classic high school events, like prom.

6. Pride & Prejudice (2005)

Like Emma, Pride & Prejudice is based on the classic Jane Austen novel of the same name. The swaying grasses of the English countryside serve as a very spring-y backdrop for the movie starring Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet.

7. Big Fish

Based on the 1998 novel, this Tim Burton film follows the fantastical stories of Edward Bloom. If the scene where Edward proposes to his girlfriend in a field of daffodils doesn’t scream “spring” to you, I don’t know what will.

8. Anne of Green Gables

Based on Lucy Maud Montgomery’s novels, this movie follows the adventures of Anne Shirley, an imaginative orphan who finds a new home on Prince Edward Island.

9. Tuck Everlasting

Based on the book by Natalie Babbitt, this movie tells the story of the immortal Tuck family and Winnie, the girl who finds out their secret.

10. Eat, Pray, Love

Spring is all about new beginnings, right? This movie follows newly-divorced Liz Gilbert (played by Julia Roberts) as she embarks on a journey of self-discovery that takes her to Italy, India, and Bali.

11. A Bug's Life

Warmer weather = more bugs. That’s pretty much the reasoning for this one’s place on the list.

12. Enchanted

This fun Disney movies blends animation with live-action to follow the story of Giselle, a fairy-tale princess who finds herself in real-life New York City. Giselle learns all about city life and tries to find true love’s kiss, all set against a springtime New York backdrop.

13. The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement

Mia Thermopolis Renaldi is now the princess of Genovia, but she must get married within 30 days to become queen. This movie follows her search for a husband and includes all kinds of springtime royal events, like garden parties and coronations.

14. Notting Hill

We’re going to end this list with a classic rom com. Notting Hill tells the story of a London bookstore owner who unexpectedly falls for a famous Hollywood actress.
