Lorelai and Luke: The Best of Season 3 (Gilmore Girls)

Note: This post contains spoilers for the plot of Gilmore Girls, so proceed at your own risk!

Hello, and welcome to another Lorelai and Luke episode guide! This time we are focusing on season 3 of Gilmore Girls, which includes some funny and sweet moments for our favorite couple.

Just a quick reminder- Lorelai and Luke did not end season 2 on a good note. The two weren’t on speaking terms after Rory and Jess’ car accident, but Lorelai attempted to make up with him during the very last episode of the season. Luke was not very responsive to her apology, but seemed willing to be cordial and… that brings us to the start of this season.

The Best Lorelai and Luke Episodes of Season 3:

"Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days"
(Season 3, Episode 1)

Some of the sweetest Lorelai and Luke moments of this episode don’t actually happen in real life- they’re all part of a dream Lorelai has one night. In the dream, she goes downstairs to greet Luke with a kiss (!!!) in her kitchen. He’s making her breakfast and complains about her coffee intake because she’s pregnant… with twins. Then she wakes up! Lorelai may not know how she feels about Luke, but her subconscious sure does.

Later on in the episode, after a particularly bad visit with her parents, Lorelai enters the diner after closing. She talks to Luke as “Mimi” since he’s still somewhat mad at the real Lorelai. Clearly, she needs a friend, and Luke is there for her as always.

"One's Got Class and the Other One Dyes"
(Season 3, Episode 4)

Luke and Lorelai are seemingly back to normal after their heart-to-heart at the start of the season. In this episode, Lorelai is invited to speak to students at Stars Hollow High, and she convinces Luke to come along too. Unfortunately, Lorelai’s speech doesn’t go as planned to the delight of Luke and the dismay of some of the students’ mothers.

"They Shoot Gilmores, Don't They?"
(Season 3, Episode 7)

This is one of my favorite episodes- the dance marathon episode! Lorelai is looking for a new partner and tries to convince Luke to dance with her (to no avail). However, Luke provides coffee and fixes Lorelai’s shoe during the dance marathon- so there are some sweet moments between the two!

"A Deep-Fried Korean Thanksgiving"
(Season 3, Episode 9)

Lorelai and Rory have four Thanksgiving meals to attend! It’s a lot, even for our favorite Gilmore girls, so they initially plan on skipping Luke’s dinner at the diner. However, he is clearly disappointed at the idea of not seeing them on the holiday, so Lorelai makes a point to have an early dinner with both him and Jess.

"Lorelai Out of Water"
(Season 3, Episode 12)

Luke and Lorelai spend some quality time together in this episode… preparing for Lorelai’s upcoming date with another guy. Alex, Lorelai’s new-ish boyfriend, invited her to go fishing because she claimed she does outdoor stuff “all the time” (aka never). Luke, bless his heart, gives her a fishing lesson so she’s at least somewhat prepared to fish.

"A Tale of Poes and Fire"
(Season 3, Episode 17)

When the Independence Inn catches on fire, the guests have to stay at various homes around Star Hollow due to the damage. With guests spending the night in her house, Lorelai is left without a bed or couch to sleep on. So, she heads over to spend the night at Luke’s apartment, which brings up memories of the dream she had at the beginning of the season.

"Those Are Strings, Pinocchio"
(Season 3, Episode 22)

In the season 3 finale, Rory is graduating high school as valedictorian of her class. Luke (and notably not Christopher, her father) is in attendance, along with Lorelai, Sookie, Jackson, Emily, and Richard.

Additionally, Luke is planning on taking a trip with his girlfriend but questions the decision after Lorelai tells him something.

That's all for Lorelai and Luke this season!

Here we are again- another season finale and Lorelai and Luke are still not together. (Have patience, I promise it’s worth it.)
