Hello, Hearties! Have you missed Hope Valley? You’re in luck because a new season of When Calls the Heart premieres this Sunday. Before we dive back into the world of Hope Valley, let’s recap some of the biggest plot points of season 10 and figure out which of our favorites we’ll be seeing this season.
What happened last season?
Let’s start with a quick recap of season 10 of When Calls the Heart, shall we?
The last season of the show included 12 episodes total in which a lot happened in Hope Valley. Here are some of the highlights:
- The Hope Valley hot springs were discovered and began drawing tourists to town.
- Rosemary and Lee welcomed a baby girl, Marigold Coulter (Goldie for short).
- Mike Hickam got a new love interest- Mei Sou.
- Madeline St. John and her son arrived in Hope Valley. Bill quickly developed feelings for her and sold her a piece of land, only for her to disappear for a good part of the season.
- Lucas decided to run for governor to stop the current corrupt governor from diverting Hope Valley’s water.
- Elizabeth broke off her engagement to Lucas, disappointing some fans and delighting others.
Where did the show leave off?
In the season 10 finale, Lucas was elected governor, Nathan avoided Elizabeth until he couldn’t anymore, and Madeline showed up in Hope Valley to see Bill. Henry also became godfather to Goldie and took a trip to visit Abigail Stanton. It seemed that Henry arrived at his destination, but we didn’t get to see who opened the door.
At the very end of the episode, Nathan finally approached Elizabeth to talk to her. Before they could say anything meaningful, Bill rode up to let them know that there was something wrong with Lucas.
So, the season ended on a cliffhanger…
What's next?
There are a lot of questions to answer in the new season of the show. What happened to Lucas? Will Abigail come back to Hope Valley (and will she be played by Lori Loughlin again, or someone else)? What is going to happen with Madeline and Bill?
Judging by the final part of season 10 and the promos for season 11, it seems that Nathan and Elizabeth’s love story will be a major storyline (just look at the promo image below). It was made clear in the finale that Elizabeth didn’t break off her engagement only because of Lucas’ choice to run for governor, but also because of her feelings for the town’s Mountie. They haven’t had much of a chance to talk since Elizabeth’s breakup with Lucas, so it will be interesting to see their dynamic at the start of the new season.
