Summertime is grilling season, and there is no easier way to get grilled, smoky flavor than by using the Ninja Woodfire 7-in-1 Grill and Smoker. A grill/smoker/air fryer hybrid that is compact and easy to clean, this small but mighty appliance has made small grill outs easier and quicker than ever this summer. Read on for exactly what I think about the Ninja 7-in-1 Grill and Smoker, along with some of our favorite things to cook using it.

About the Ninja Woodfire 7-in-1 Grill and Smoker

The Ninja Woodfire 7-in-1 Grill and Smoker is an outdoor grill, smoker, and air fryer combo appliance that can also bake, roast, broil, and dehydrate food (hence the 7-in-1). Not only can you get the full performance of a grill, but you can also infuse woodfire flavor with just 1/2 cup of Ninja’s pellets. Using air fryer mode, you can also infuse that same smoky flavor into veggies and other side dishes.

What it comes with:

  • Nonstick Grill Grate (141 square inches)
  • Crisper Basket
  • Pellet Scoop
  • Ninja Woodfire Pellets Starter Packs
  • Quick Start Guide With Recipes

Does not come with (but can be purchased separately):
  • Protective Outdoor Cover
  • Collapsible Grill Stand

You can also purchase extra Ninja Woodfire Pellets in either their All-Purpose or Robust blends.

Why I Love It:

Easy To Use: Setting the grill up is super easy and quick. It will preheat for you, and if you want to use pellets you just add up to 1/2 a cup and press the “Woodfire Flavor” button. You can easily switch between modes, add or subtract time, and adjust the temperature as well.

The Taste: I LOVE the smoky flavor this grill infuses in food. Depending on the amount of pellets you put in, the flavor can be very strong. However, it is an authentic smoky flavor, not a chemical type of smoke. Of course, you can also skip on the pellets and just use it as a normal grill, getting that charred grill flavor without the extra woodfire smoke.

Easy Cleanup: The grill plate is so easy to clean, even with grease all over and stuck on cheese from burgers. Additionally, there is no charcoal used with this grill, so you won’t have to deal with that mess.

Compact Size: The size of this Ninja Grill makes it super easy to store, or just tuck out of the way on a smaller deck or patio. If you choose to purchase the Ninja table that goes with the grill, you can easily collapse that for storage purposes whenever the grill is not in use.

On the flip side, a smaller grill means a smaller surface area to grill on. I would say that, depending on what you are cooking, this grill can comfortably and quickly cook a meal for 2-4 people. Large groups may be harder to feed unless you are cooking a bunch of hotdogs/brats or will be cooking other parts of the meal inside.

Versatility: You can obviously grill anything you would on a normal grill on the Ninja- from burgers to brats to veggies. You can also smoke meat, like brisket or ribs, as long as it fits on the grilling surface and under the lid. All the modes (grill, smoker, air crisp, bake, roast, broil, dehydrate) allow you a lot of flexibility- you could definitely cook an entire meal outside with just the Ninja if you wanted.

Using the Ninja 7-in-1

Based on our use of the Ninja 7-in-1 so far this summer, I have one major tip for you. Make sure you put the woodfire pellets in right before you are ready to start grilling/smoking your meal/side. Otherwise, you will end up wasting them as they smoke during the time the grill is preheating.

Now for a couple things we’ve made so far!

In terms of grilling space you have- as you can see above, you can easily fit 5 burgers plus some onions on the grill, with some room to flip the burgers and move things around. These were so yummy! They had really nice grill marks, cooked quickly, and had an authentic smoky flavor (not that chemical smoke taste).

While Ninja does not advertise that its 7-in-1 Grill can be used for pizzas, we tried some and loved the outcome. However, and this is important, you absolutely MUST par-bake your crust until it’s about halfway done in your oven indoors before adding sauce/toppings and finishing the pizza on the Ninja grill. The point of putting it in the Ninja is to finish cooking the crust, melt the cheese and warm the other toppings, and to infuse that smoky flavor into the pizza with the woodfire pellets (if you so choose).

An alternative to the Ninja for making woodfire pizzas is the Kettlepizza Pro Kit linked below. It is much more difficult and time consuming to set up, but it also allows you to fully cook the pizzas in the grill at a super high temp. Using the Ninja is what I would call the “cheater” method to getting that smoky flavor without having to start the charcoal, set up the kettle, etc. When you want a “woodfire” pizza quickly, the Ninja 7-in-1 is your girl.

Either way, you’ll need a pizza peel! I linked my favorite one below.

Should You Try This Ninja Grill and Smoker?

I think you should try this 7-in-1 Ninja Grill and Smoker if you…

  • Love smoky flavor infused in your food but don’t want the hassle of using an actual smoker.
  • Value a quick and easy setup and clean up.
  • Will be cooking for only about 2-4 people at a time.
  • Are short on space- it’s hard to beat how compact this little grill is.

This grill may not be for you if you…

  • Regularly cook for more than 3 or 4 people. I recommend checking out the larger version of the Ninja grill, or one of my favorite Weber grills (mentioned next).

Other Options

If you like the Ninja 7-in-1 but know you’ll need more space to grill…. try the XL version of the grill that offers 30% more space (180 square inches).

If you don’t think the Ninja is right for you… try out either of the two Weber grills linked below. We use and love both of them.
